200 Hour Online Yoga Teacher Training

The 200 hour online yoga teacher training at Rishikesh Nath Yogshala is the same core curriculum the school teaches inside its Rishikesh residency, delivered instead over live video from wherever you already live. It suits someone who has kept a home practice going for a while, wants the structure and teaching skills a proper 200 hour training gives you, and cannot, for reasons of work, family or money, clear the weeks it takes to travel to India and live at the school in person. It does not suit everyone. If what you actually want is the immersion itself, early mornings by the Ganga, shared meals, a teacher adjusting your alignment with their hands, no online course can give you that, and this page says so plainly rather than pretend otherwise.

What online training can give you is the same teachers, the same sequencing, and the same philosophy and anatomy content that the residential 200 hour course covers, taught live on a recurring schedule rather than compressed into a single trip. You keep the recordings, so a session you cannot attend live is not a session you miss entirely. And you get to test, before spending on flights and visas, whether the discipline of a structured yoga training is something you can actually sustain around a normal working life.

This page sets out exactly what is included, how the live sessions run, what the curriculum covers module by module, what you need on your end to take part, and what the certificate you finish with actually says, so you can decide with your eyes open before you book. The current fee is shown further down this page.

What's Included

What You Get

Here is exactly what the 200 hour online course fee covers, and what it deliberately does not, since an online course cannot promise what only a residency can provide.

IncludedNot included
Live sessions over Zoom with the school's core teachersAccommodation in Rishikesh
Recordings of every live session, yours to keepMeals
Digital course manual and study materialIn-person, hands-on adjustment
A printed course book posted to your addressYour own internet connection and device for Zoom sessions
One-to-one feedback sessions with a teacherThe excursions and Ganga aarti visits that come with a residency
Access to a WhatsApp group for questions between sessionsA visa, since you never need one for this course
A certificate from the school on completionPostage for a physical copy of your certificate outside the standard book mailing

Nothing here is a surprise once you have paid. The fee is one number, quoted before you book, and what it covers is the list above, not a shorter version of it that only becomes clear once you have already started. If a specific item on this list matters to you, ask before you enrol rather than after.

How the Live Sessions Work

Classes run live over Zoom, taught by the same core teachers who lead the school's residential trainings, not a separate online-only staff. Each live block runs for as long as a proper asana class or a full lecture needs, not a rushed version squeezed into a lunch break, and the sessions recur across your weeks in the course rather than arriving as one long unbroken stream to work through on your own.

The school is in Rishikesh, so every session is scheduled around Indian time. In practice that puts most live sessions in the evening in India, which lands in the early morning across most of the United States and around midday to early afternoon across Europe, depending on which side of the Atlantic you are on. It is worth checking the current live schedule against your own time zone before you commit, since a training that asks you to be alert in the middle of your own night is not a training you will keep up with, however good the content is.

If you miss a live session, you are not simply out of luck. Every session is recorded, and the recording is added to material that is yours to keep, so you can watch it back on your own time and bring questions to the next live class or raise them in the course WhatsApp group in the meantime. Nobody expects a perfect attendance record across a course run over video and across time zones; the point of the recordings is that a missed class costs you a delay, not the content itself.

Module By Module

The Curriculum

The 200 hour online curriculum follows the same ground the residential 200 hour training covers, taught over video rather than compressed into a single stay. It moves through Hatha, Ashtanga and Vinyasa practice, pranayama and the traditional shatkarma purification techniques, anatomy, philosophy, meditation and teaching methodology, so a graduate finishes with the same breadth the school's in-person students get, not a thinner online-only version of it.

Hatha

Standing and seated postures, backbends and forward bends, and the alignment cues you need to describe a pose clearly enough over video that a student on the other end of a camera can actually follow it. Hatha is the foundation the rest of the training builds on, taught live so a teacher can watch how you move and correct you as you go.

Ashtanga

The standing sequence, the seated postures that follow it, and the finishing sequence from the primary series, worked through live so you feel its internal logic rather than reading about it from a manual.

Vinyasa

How to link breath and movement, build a class toward a peak posture, and bring a sequence back down before rest, taught as a set of principles for building your own classes rather than a single fixed routine to memorise.

Pranayama and Shatkarma

Breath as a practice in its own right, alongside the traditional Hatha Yoga Pradipika purification practices such as jal neti, taught with the same care and attention to hygiene the school applies in Rishikesh, adapted so you can practise safely at home.

Anatomy and Physiology

How the skeletal, muscular and respiratory systems relate to the postures you are practising and will teach, so "hold this pose" becomes "hold this pose safely," taught with study material you keep long after the live class ends.

Yoga Philosophy

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and relevant sections of the Bhagavad Gita, taught by Rahul Badoni, the school's co-founder, so the physical practice sits inside a framework you actually understand rather than a handful of Sanskrit terms memorised for an exam.

Meditation

Guided and seated meditation practice led by Swami Anand, worked into the live schedule as its own discipline, not tacked on at the end of an asana class as an afterthought.

Teaching Methodology

How to plan and run a class, cue verbally with enough precision that it works even without being in the same room, and modify a posture for a student with an injury or limitation, led by Mayuri Shewale, the school's founder and lead teacher and an E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance.

Every module above is taught by one of the school's named core teachers. Meet the full team on the teachers page.

Technology You Need

You need a reasonably stable internet connection, a laptop, tablet or phone that can run Zoom with the camera on, and a spot at home with enough floor space to move through a full asana practice without knocking into furniture. A second device or a stand to prop your camera at a useful angle helps a teacher actually see your alignment, since a phone propped against a water bottle on the floor rarely shows your full body.

On props: you do not need to buy a studio's worth of equipment. A folded blanket or firm cushion substitutes for a bolster, a stack of books works in place of a block, and a long scarf or a dressing-gown belt does the job of a strap. What matters more than owning the "correct" prop is having something with the right shape and firmness on hand when a teacher calls for one, and a practice space quiet enough that you can hear instruction and, when it is your turn, be heard.

Certification and Yoga Alliance

Rishikesh Nath Yogshala is a Yoga Alliance Registered School, recognised at the RYS 200 and RYS 300 levels for the residential trainings it runs from Rishikesh. That is a fact about the school, and it is worth being precise about what it does and does not tell you about this online course.

On completing the 200 hour online training, you receive a certificate from Rishikesh Nath Yogshala confirming you have finished the course, covering the modules set out above. Whether hours completed online can themselves be registered with Yoga Alliance toward a Registered Yoga Teacher credential is a question with its own rules, set by Yoga Alliance, that can change and that depend on your own circumstances. Rather than promise an outcome the school does not control, the honest answer is: ask Yoga Alliance directly, before you enrol, if registering as an RYT is the reason you are taking this course. Do not assume it based on this page alone.

What the school can promise is the training itself: the same modules, the same teachers, and a certificate that reflects genuine hours of live instruction, not a document handed out for watching a stack of pre-recorded videos on your own schedule.

Online or In Rishikesh?

Both routes lead to the same core 200 hour curriculum, taught by the same teachers. What differs is how you experience it, and which trade-offs you are willing to make.

If cost or travel is the only thing stopping you from training in Rishikesh, it is worth asking yourself honestly whether online is a genuine choice for you or a compromise you plan to revisit later. Some students use the online course as a first step and travel for the residential 200 hour training once they can, arriving already familiar with the material and the teaching team. Others complete the whole course online because it is what actually fits their life, and that is a legitimate reason on its own.

Be honest with yourself about self-discipline before you book. Nobody is going to knock on your door if you skip a live session, and nobody is watching to see whether you actually unroll your mat between classes. The students who get the most out of this course are the ones who treat the live schedule the way they would treat a class they were paying to attend in person, and who use the recordings to catch up rather than to replace showing up in the first place. If you know from experience that you need a room full of other people and a teacher standing over you to stay consistent, say so to yourself now, not halfway through the course.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I miss a live session?

Every live session is recorded, and recordings are yours to keep, so a missed class is a delay, not a loss. Bring questions from the recording to the next live session or raise them in the course WhatsApp group.

Is the 200 hour online course Yoga Alliance certified?

Rishikesh Nath Yogshala is a Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS 200 and RYS 300) for its residential trainings. On completing this online course you receive a certificate from the school itself. Whether hours completed online can be registered with Yoga Alliance toward an RYT credential is governed by Yoga Alliance's own rules, which can change, so confirm directly with Yoga Alliance before you enrol if that registration is the reason you are taking this course.

Do I need any special equipment to take this course?

A stable internet connection, a device that runs Zoom with the camera on, and enough floor space at home to move through a full asana practice. Household substitutes work for props: a folded blanket for a bolster, books for a block, a long scarf or belt for a strap.

How is the online curriculum different from the residential 200 hour training?

The core modules are the same: Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, pranayama and shatkarma, anatomy, philosophy, meditation and teaching methodology, taught by the same core teachers. What differs is the format, live over video instead of in person, and what only a residency can provide: hands-on adjustment, shared meals and full daily immersion.

Who actually teaches the live sessions?

The same core teaching team who run the school's residential courses in Rishikesh, including Mayuri Shewale, Rahul Badoni and Swami Anand. Meet the full team on the teachers page.

What time zone are the live sessions scheduled in?

Sessions are scheduled around Indian time, which generally puts them in the evening in India, early morning across most of the United States and around midday to afternoon across Europe. Check the current live schedule against your own time zone before you book.

Should I take the 100 hour or the 200 hour online course first?

If you are new to yoga or have only practised occasionally, the 100 hour foundation course is the gentler starting point. If you already have a regular home practice, the 200 hour course is built to take you further, including toward teaching.

How do I book the 200 hour online course?

You can book directly through the school's booking page, where the current fee and enrolment details are shown. If you have questions first, the general FAQ page and the teachers page are both good places to look, or you can contact the school directly.
